DON'T MISS THESE HOME SPRING CLEANING TIPS
Spring is not quite here yet, but it never hurts to get ready for it! You’ll be outside enjoying the fresh air and doing yard work in no time. Seriously, the first day of spring will be March 20th!
While spring might be farther away for us Minnesotans, write down these tasks and stick them on your calendar for when spring has finally sprung.
Freshen Up Your Bed
Spring is the time to clean your sheets and flip your mattress. You can also change your bedding to lighter colors to give your room a new look.
Add Some Green
While you are waiting for your outdoor plants to bloom, get some plants for indoors. Put them in a crazy vase to make a statement piece.
Rearranging your furniture can changes things up. It is a good opportunity to clean under furniture that hasn’t been moved in a while.
Add Some Lighter Colors
Go with some lighter and brighter colors for your spring decor. They will make your home pop and get you in the spring spirit.
Get out the dusty winter staleness with some spring cleaning. Some chores that are often forgotten are cleaning the ceiling fans, the fridge, and your blinds.
Take a look at your front door. Make sure it still has its integrity and insulation. Then, wipe down your door to remove any dirt or salt.
Inspect your walkway and driveway for any cracked, uneven, or loose parts. Make any repairs.
Look for parts of your yard that may have had some salt or plow damage.
Check your outdoor light bulbs. It is best to replace old bulbs with energy efficient ones.
If you have wood exterior, walk around and poke the exteriors with a screwdriver. If the wood gives and seems mushy, replace it as soon as possible.
Clean the inside and outside of your windows.
Inspect your roof from the ground. Look for damaged or missing shingles. Want to know what to look for? Check out this article about the Common Signs of a Bad Roof.
If you have a chimney, see how the exterior of it looks. It is a wise idea to have your chimney cleaned out by a professional now; don’t let it sit dirty until fall.
Have your air conditioner serviced before summer hits.
Check your outdoor faucets for any freeze damage.
See if your gutters are loose or have holes while cleaning them out. If your gutters have a couple of problem areas, it may be best to replace them.
Walk around your yard and look for problem areas like flooding or lack of grass. You may need to install a drainage system or reseed these areas.
Add some new mulch around your trees, shrubs, and plants. Don’t add mulch until the ground thaws.
Take inventory of the yard tools you’ll be using this spring. Clean them and replace any tools that look rough.
Take a look at your trees. Any sick or broken branches should be pruned right away. Wait to prune the rest of your branches until early spring to stimulate growth.
Create a game plan and budget. Take inventory of broken things or improvements you want to make to your home. Make a list and then rank the items. Then, estimate the cost and create a budget.
